Baby Safe. Offering Life, Hope & Options

In the midst of poverty, unemloyment, addiction, abuse and a rate of 30-40% of HIV/AIDS, thousands of South Africans & African refuges struggle to survive. One of the devastating consequences of such poverty is that newborn babies are literally being thrown away. “Baby dumping” is a daunting reality for many lives and I am choosing to become a voice for this voiceless generation of African infants. I’m happy to introduce you to Baby Safe, a small team of girls with a big vision and a rapidly growing organization committed to preventing baby dumping in Africa.
So, what is a “Baby Safe”? It is a drop off point designed to detect an infant when placed inside which immediately notifys a staff member via phone & other safety features. Open 24 hours a day this is both a legal & safe option available to mothers in desperate circumstances.
As a team, the Baby Safe women: intervene with abandon or abused infants found in other locations besides the Baby Safe, place infants with loving foster parents through a Baby Safe established foster care program, connect with at risk pregnant women before they come the point of abandoning their infants, staff the local hospital with pre-abortion counceling for all the women schedualed for abortions, give pre and post birth support, home visits & infant care education.
Through this network, God is already changing the lives of dozens; mothers, unborn children and infants alike. I am thankful to be returning to South Africa to contribute to such an incredible vision that is yielding the fruit of life, hope and love.
