Paul was speaking out of amazing wisdom when writing Romans chapter 14 talking about not allowing your freedoms to get in the way of someone else getting to know the Lord. He said, "Do not forsake the work of God for the sake of food" and " Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died." Althouh these verses are referring to food, the principle is all the same...don't put any obstacles in front of someone knowing Jesus. With that said, this is one of the craziest things we have learned first hand here. The culture says that all woman should cover their hair completely as well as the majority of their body. This might be easy in the winter of Colorado, but not so in some of the craziest heat and humidity. Our women though, including my beautiful wife, have taken up these words of Paul and come under the culture as to not offend anyone. It has been hard, hot, and at times even depressing for them, but they would all aggree unanimously that it has been worth it! Half of the relationships we have formed here have had a direct corrilation to the way our women dress. Many have said they would not have even talked to us/them if they hadn't covered! There is not a day that goes by that people don't say how wonderful they are for doing this. Some of the guy friends we have become so much more open when they see our wives. Just the other day Meehan and I were sitting in front of a store and two guys came and asked if we were of their faith and struck up an amazing convo because of her covering...we are now meeting with them again to talk more. All in all I just wanted to brag about my wife because I am so proud of her laying down here own rights in order that others might gain them!
