After many years of loving and following Jesus, I finally made the decision to be baptized! On February 24, 2010 my husband dipped me beneath the water as a significant and symbolic act of the new life I have in Christ. I have been waiting for a long time to make this choice and am so glad that I finally have. When I read Matthew 28:19 and discovered that baptism is not merely a suggestion but rather a command of Jesus, I had the deep conviction to respond. Although I was challenged not to have my friends and family there to witness this precious day, I rejoice in the declaration I made before my heavenly Father and other witnesses!
Although it is clear in the bible that baptism is not essential for our salvation, it is a powerful reminder to us and others that we have chosen to accept the new life we have in Christ. You can get married without a celebration, but that day will always remind you and others of the commitment you have made.
oh meems! I'm rejoicing with both of you now! I'm in your same boat... never been baptized. Praying for the right place and time!
