What Else..

We had no idea coming to South Africa what a beautiful country it is. Our surroundings are filled with rocky cliffs and hills that tower up along the ocean coast. Sometimes I feel like we are in the Lion King and we will see Simba or Mufasa on the top of the rocks one day. We are out on a peninsula so we are almost surrounded by ocean. The Atlantic Ocean to one side, and the Indian to the other. It is wild because the peninsula is so narrow you can actually see both oceans at some points. The only difference is that the Atlantic is SOOO much colder. On our days off we enjoy going to grab coffee at a little market place cafĂ© near by or cruise to one of the little ocean towns to walk around. We have been spoiled by the weather being that it is summer here so we are very appreciative of that. One of the things we are beginning to enjoy together is running. We have been trying to get out daily and set a new goal for distance, which is pretty fun. This is one way I have learned to not only stay healthy while traveling, but also be able to see more of your surroundings. The communities around us are still evident of partied days. Almost no blacks live in what any of us would consider nice or even semi-nice homes or apartments. There are a rare few that do, but most live in townships. The white communities look very much like normal neighborhoods but are always surrounded by huge walls with wild security systems, guards, electric fences, and some of the biggest dogs you have ever seen. One of the things we look forward to every night is dinner time with all the couples living in our house. They have given us a cooking budget and usually one couple prepares the meal each night. We then all sit and eat together talking about life and everything going on. It has been so refreshing for us and we are making some really good friends. We realize it is so rare to be with so many people who are not only  walking through the same stage of life as us but also excited about missions and church planting. All in all, it is evident that we could not be in a better place right now. We are so amazed that we get to do this. The crazy thing is that we would have NEVER chosen this on our own understanding. What a reverence that brings over us to following Him. It really hits us looking back now, how much God’s ways are higher than ours. Like it says in Psalm 139, “O that I would always follow your ways!”
